BY THE NUMBERS: 24/25 Rush (so far)

Feb 7, 2025

It’s a bye week, so we might as well dive into the numbers as we approach the midway part of the season.

Sitting at 6-2, this is the best start to a Rush season since the 2020 campaign that was cut off by covid. That year, Saskatchewan was sitting 1st in the western conference, which is where they’d be now if it wasn’t for the unified standings, but that’s a conversation for another time.

There’s been a lot of impressive stat lines and performances this season, so let’s highlight a few.

3 – Saskatchewan is the only team in the league with three wins at home and on the road. In comparison, the Rush only tallied four wins at home and four wins on the road last season.

5 – Dressing five rookie players this season is something only Saskatchewan and Albany have done. The forwards in Brock Haley, Levi Anderson and Josh Zawada have combined for 13 goals and 21 assists, while defender Matt Acchione has two assists, 15 loose balls and four caused turnovers. At the faceoff dot, Jake Naso has won 96/159 draws he’s taken, putting him at a 60.4% win rate. Will any of them be in the Rookie of the Year conversation? I’d sure hope so.

10 – Ten games remain in the NLL regular season. Based on history since 2016, the final playoff spot has gone to a 9-9 team three times, an 8-10 team three times and a 6-12 team once. With the unified standings, the log jam becomes ever more difficult to break come April, but if I had to guess, 10 wins is the safe mark for clinching a playoff spot and even at 9-9, there’s a chance you don’t make the dance.

23 – Matt Hossack has caused a league leading 23 turnovers this season in his return to Saskatchewan. He’s ahead of Zach Currier who sits in 2nd place by FIVE. At this rate, Hossack is on pace for 52 CTOs this year, which would be the most since Currier’s 62 in 2022. There’s no denying his impact has been massive in his return to green, but is it enough for Defensive Player of the Year? I think yes.

30 – Defender Jake Boudreau is on pace for 162 loose ball recoveries this season, 30 more than his total last year. The 26-year-old from Brampton continues to make strides in his game, running at a rate to set career highs in goals, assists, points, loose balls, caused turnovers and blocked shots. EVERY stat the league tracks for defenceman.

56 – Difference in days between when the Rush picked up their 6th win of the season in 2025 (Feb 1) and 2024 (Mar 28). By calendar date, this is the earliest ever that Saskatchewan has had six wins in an NLL season.

79 – Goaltenders Frank Scigliano and Thomas Kiazyk have posted a combined .792 save percentage this season. That’s the 2nd highest ever and best since the 2020 shortened season when Evan Kirk and Adam Shute combined for an .814 save percentage through 10 games.

97 – No, I don’t want to talk about Connor McDavid, I want to show you the pace Zach Manns is on for points this season. If he continues down this path, he’ll surpass his last season goal total by 13 and his match his assist output of 47.

The Saskatchewan Rush are back on Co-op Field in a couple of weeks, when the Rochester Knighthawks come to SaskTel Centre on Saturday, February 15th at 7:00PM.
