Rush wrap up weekend one of training camp

Nov 3, 2024

Friday afternoon at Henk Ruys Soccer Centre, 37 players took to the floor as Saskatchewan Rush training camp officially kicked off.

The weekend included medicals and three practices, one on Friday and two on Saturday.

“The one thing having so many bodies allows you to do is to really get after it. I thought the tempo and pace was a little frantic at times and a little too much, but the compete was really good,” said GM and co-head coach Derek Keenan. “There is some jobs on the line. We’re trying to get back to a winning culture here.”

On the floor, first round picks Levi Anderson and Matt Acchione took a lot of the spotlight as Rush fans got their first look at the two in green.

Up front, Austin Shanks and Brock Haley, who were both acquired in the off-season, suited up alongside returners like Robert Church, Mike Triolo and Nathaniel Kozevnikov.

Former Saskatchewan pick, Matt Hossack also returned to the green machine where he’ll immediately step into a leadership role.

“The energy, the speed of the play and the compete level was exactly what we wanted,” said co-head coach Jimmy Quinlan. “We just have to be better in the little details. I don’t think effort or energy is ever a concern with our group.”

Next up, the showcase game during Fan Fest on Saturday, November 9th at 2pm. Tickets are $20 and can be bought here

First round of cuts is expected to be made following weekend two, before the group goes to Oakville to face the Las Vegas Desert Dogs and Toronto Rock in a pair of preseason tilts.

Single game tickets can be purchased here.
