Shanks nets OT winner in Saskatchewan Rush debut
Nov 30, 2024Saturday night at MVP Arena, the Saskatchewan Rush dumped the Albany FireWolves 10-9 in overtime thanks to Austin Shanks’ second of the game.
Defences dominated the first quarter as Frank Scigliano and Doug Jamieson entered the dual going save for save, with Ryan Keenan’s goal being the only one of the first quarter, leaving it 1-1 after 15 minutes.
Zach Manns jumped in on the scoring in the second quarter, scoring a pair as the teams stood on level ground at 3-3 after the first half.
After falling behind 5-3, Austin Shanks sparked the comeback with his first of the night, and Brock Haley added two of his own in his Rush debut, setting the stage at 6-6 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Manns turned on the goal light a couple more times and Jake Boudreau buried his first of the season, but a late Albany goal forced OT and a 9-9 score.
After Scigliano made seven more stops and 7:13 of free lacrosse passed, Austin Shanks netted his second of the night, giving Saskatchewan their first win of the season.
Between the pipes Scigliano made 49 saves. At the dot, Jake Naso won eight faceoffs against Joe Nardella, one of the best draw takers in the league.
Next up on Co-op Field, the Saskatchewan Rush host the Halifax Thunderbirds to SaskTel Centre! The highly anticipated rematch is set for Saturday, December 14th at 7:00PM.
